"Peace does not mean no more conflict among humanity.  Conflict is bound to happen, so in order to keep peace in spite of conflict, the only realistic method is the spirit of dialogue, respecting the other side and understanding their viewpoint. We need to try to solve problems in the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood, in a spirit of reconciliation and compromise."           --The Dalai Lama

PeacePal launches its service project program,       Project PeacePal Youth Against Malaria

Peace is a verb!  PeacePals not only create international friendship and build bridges of understanding between cultures with their letter writing, they also help their friends in need.  A majority of PeacePal's international partners are located in Africa, where malaria is still the largest cause of death.  Even in this age of advanced technology and medicines, the single most effective prevention for this devastating disease is a mosquito net, or bed net. In May of 2010, PeacePal has launched a year-long program to raise funds to buy bed nets for our friends in Ghana and Togo, West Africa.

You can help support this inspiring initiative:

1.  Visit our bed net donation page at www.againstmalaria.com/projectpeacepal and make an online contribution

2.  Buy one of our beautiful handmade friendship bracelets made by Sanyork, Inc., a fair trade workshop in Peru, especially for PeacePal.  They are $5 each, the cost of a bed net,  and 100% of the funds raise with the sale of these bracelets will go toward the purchase of bed nets

3.  Start a Project PeacePal Youth Against Malaria group where you live, at school, with friends or family, at your church or community center.  Contact us for details on how to get your group started.

PeacePal's World Premiere Screening of Stealing the Light  a Resounding Success!

Thank you to all of our hundreds of supporters who helped make last Friday, April 9th, an amazing evening!  The premier of Stealing the Light, as well as the concert by Rahim AlHaj were inspiring. A great time was had by all.  The Caravan to Peace VIP ticket holders were treated to a delicious meal catered by Ariana Halal, an authentic Afghani food market and cafe.

We raised $8,000 for Green Village Schools thanks to all of you, an amazing feat, particularly in these hard economic times!  Two new classrooms and increased access to education for girls in the Helmand Provence, Afghanistan will now be possible because of your generosity and commitment to peace.

Thank you!

Project PeacePal

Project PeacePal is an international peace through education organization that strives to create the next generation of leaders and peace builders through international friendships and the application of peace-building skills in daily life.

It was founded in 2007 in order to build a way for young people around the world to experience each others' cultures based on friendship. By participating in PeacePal activities in classrooms, students throughout the world learn about life in far-away places, develop respect for other cultures and religions, and new solutions for creating a more peaceful world.

Project PeacePal is an international pen pal program available in countries around the world including: Afghanistan, Burundi, Canada, Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Israel, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, South Africa, Togo, Uganda and the United States.

Our Programs

Project PeacePal is more than a letter writing organization:

  • It offers teachers a standards-based literacy and peace skills curriculum that develops their students' ability to communicate ideas, resolve conflicts and become leaders for peace.

  • It is a service organization that helps improve the lives of PeacePals living in remote areas torn asunder by war and poverty.

Service projects have ranged from providing a generator to a partner school in Pakistan to providing mosquito netting to PeacePals in Africa and even providing the luxury of an ice cream cone for Tibetan students in Nepal. Project PeacePal also provides school supplies to participating schools around the world and subsidizes mail service in many remote areas.

Mission Statement

PeacePals are international friends who write letters to create a connected web of compassionate young leaders practicing the art of peace in daily life. As conflict arises out of misunderstanding and ignorance, PeacePal's international connections bring insight that in the midst of cultural diversity, there is an underlying common yearning for peaceful relationships based in respect.
